About the Company

Fox TV Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S., including stations in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas (DMAs) and duopolies in 11 DMAs, such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Of these, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. The stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week and distribute sports, entertainment, and syndicated content.

About the Role

The producer selects stories, assembles them in a rundown, creates graphics, writes and copy edits stories, and coordinates with reporters on presentations. The role involves taking the show into the control room, timing it for commercial breaks, and ensuring compelling on-air and online content. Producers must be enterprising, self-motivated, and capable of working independently to develop newscasts or assigned productions.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, write, and edit news material and assemble show rundowns, including generating story ideas and producing packages for air.
  • Work closely with News Managers, Assignment Desk, reporters, and other newsroom staff on story conception, development, and execution.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and discussing show content.
  • Produce or oversee special projects, productions, or live coverage of station-sponsored events.
  • Operate broadcast production equipment (e.g., intercom systems, microphones, newsroom computer systems, video screening computers, cellular devices, laptops/tablets).
  • Write news copy clearly in broadcast style for on-air, online, and digital platforms.
  • Assemble news material logically and present stories professionally and engagingly.
  • Adapt to fast-paced, changing environments and react to live situations, such as breaking news.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with peers, superiors, and external contacts to aid in newsgathering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques.
  • Strong writing, communication, and producing skills.
  • Ability to contribute story ideas and recognize compelling television content.

Work Environment

Primary work environment is the newsroom and field, with occasional time in the studio or control room. In-house conditions include studio/control room settings with temperatures ranging from 55°F (studio) to 75°F and humidity levels from 10% to 70%+. Outside conditions vary according to Michigan weather.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $64,000.00–$69,000.00 annually, with the final offer dependent on education, skills, experience, and location.
