About the Role

The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) is a competent registered nurse that delivers nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. The role involves:

The Registered Nurse demonstrates competency caring for complex patients and participates on the care team to improve the quality of care in the clinical area.

Responsibilities

• Conducts systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety and collaborating with the healthcare team, patient, and family
• Independently administers medications, assesses and reassesses their effects, and documents administration in a timely manner per policies and regulatory requirements
• Plans care in collaboration with the patient and family using current scientific knowledge and care standards, incorporating data from the multidisciplinary care team
• Identifies and prioritizes patient problems based on assessment data, patient safety considerations, and patient/family goals
• Implements nursing care interventions to meet patient and family-centered health care needs, demonstrating competent skills and clinical judgment
• Assesses, conducts, and evaluates patient and family teaching from admission to discharge, considering age, learning needs, and cultural background
• Evaluates care by reviewing patient/family responses to interventions, revises the multidisciplinary plan of care, and intervenes to prevent adverse events
• Serves as an advocate for the patient and family, demonstrating respect for their rights and preparing them for discharge
• Works collaboratively with unlicensed assistive healthcare providers, ensuring safe patient care delivery per regulatory and legal requirements
• Demonstrates professional conduct, orients new team members, and supervises students in assigned duties
• May act as relief charge nurse when needed
• Maintains professional competency through continuing education, licensure, and professional activities
• Participates in evidence-based practice activities and discusses outcomes of care with colleagues
• Actively participates as a collaborative member of the healthcare team, communicating constructively and resolving conflicts appropriately
• Performs duties in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality of care
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
• All new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses must start an approved BSN program within one year of hire and complete it within three years (required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
• All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program (required)
• Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)

Qualifications

• Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
• Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the AHA (may be required for specific clinical areas)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the AHA (may be required for specific clinical areas)
• Additional specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit
