About the Role
Join the Sugarbush Ski and Ride School for a winter season! As the best school in the east, we pride ourselves on our storied past, incredible terrain, and unforgettable experiences for guests and staff. Full and part-time availability with a minimum required schedule of 20 days for the winter season. Pay starts at $18 per hour and increases with completed instructing certifications.
Responsibilities
- Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment with unpredictable winter weather conditions.
- Arrive to work on time and prepared for all duties.
- Attend morning meetings.
- Supervise and assist children in your class at all times, including during lunch and snack times.
- Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
- Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
- Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
- Assist in operational responsibilities of children's programs, including registration, directing guests to equipment fitting, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
- Communicate lesson content and child’s progress with the identified guardian.
- Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
- Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must be an intermediate skier/snowboarder (parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain).
- Previous experience with teaching, coaching, mentoring, and/or ski or snowboard instructing.
- Experience working with children.
- Available to work holidays and weekends.
- Successfully complete mandatory on-snow training.
- Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods, bend, squat, and lift 50 lbs.
- Good guest service skills and ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Knowledge of Spanish language.
- PSIA/AASI Level I, II, or III Certification.
- USSA Certifications.
- Prior ski racing or freestyle background.
Consideration given to uncertified candidates with strong skiing/riding skills, good communication skills, and enthusiasm for the sport.
Pay
Starts at $18 per hour, with increases based on completed instructing certifications.
