Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains and organizes the fax queue where referrals are received.
- Responds to all incoming and STAT referrals within organization timelines.
- Answers the department phone line and returns all phone messages the same day.
- Obtains required medical records and indexes them into patients’ electronic health records.
- Schedules appointments and distributes all new patient paperwork to patients/parents electronically or by mail within 24 hours.
- Obtains insurance and verifies active status on related insurance portals and alerts Patient Financial Counselors if patient is uninsured.
- SUBMITS referrals to the Medical Director or designee for review.
- MONITORS payer portals for incoming referrals and authorizations.
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
Required Education And Experience
- A high school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of experience in a pediatric specialty medical practice.
- Experience in the pediatric hematology/oncology field or other equivalent healthcare environment.
- Ability to schedule in an electronic health record system.
- Ability to verify eligibility of benefits and a general understanding of the authorization process.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Read and write legibly.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
- Frequently required to walk.
- Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Occasionally required to reach, bend, and lift 15 lbs.
Languages Skills
- English.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
