About the role

At Summerville Medical Center, the HCA Healthcare New Grad Residency Program is a year-long paid program designed to help you transition from student nurse to registered nurse. You will be supported by nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents through hands-on clinical experience, critical thinking development, and socialization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each shift, identifying and reporting changes in status.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers.
  • Document care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor for therapeutic response.
  • Notify providers and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended medication response.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate needs.
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures.
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure understanding.
  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department requirements and professional standards.
  • Collaborate with medical providers and care teams using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.”
  • Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Some travel may be needed for training.
