About the role
At Summerville Medical Center, the HCA Healthcare New Grad Residency Program is a year-long paid program designed to help you transition from student nurse to registered nurse. You will be supported by nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents through hands-on clinical training, monthly educational sessions, preceptorship, simulations, mentoring, and an evidence-based practice project.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each shift, reporting changes in status.
- Perform procedures and monitoring as ordered by medical providers.
- Document care in the patient medical record thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor for therapeutic response.
- Notify providers and intervene as appropriate for unintended medication responses.
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate needs.
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatments, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures.
- Translate complex medical terminology to ensure understanding.
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care consistent with department requirements and state/specialty standards.
- Collaborate with medical providers and care teams using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.”
- Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Other certifications may be required during employment.
- No previous experience needed.
- Some travel may be needed for training.
