New Graduate Nurse OR Surgery

HCA Healthcare is committed to the growth and development of future nurses. This role includes a 22-week orientation program specifically training for OR Surgery, with on-call requirements that include overnights and weekends—no flexibility is available for this expectation.

About the Role

The HCA Nurse Residency Program is a year-long program designed to provide hands-on experience, establish clinical and critical thinking skills, and support the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents focused on learning, clinical application, and socialization.

The program at Overland Park Regional Medical Center includes:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Monthly educational sessions
  • Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
  • Skills measurement and evaluation through hands-on simulations
  • Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
  • Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and nursing scope and standards. Using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care while advocating for patients, families, and caregivers.

Start dates available:

  • October 26th, 2026 (for graduates between May 26 and September 2026)
  • February 15th, 2027 (reserved for December 2026 graduates)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
  • Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
  • Notify provider and intervene as needed for unintended medication responses
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Additional certifications may be required during employment
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state
  • No previous experience required
  • Some travel may be needed for training
