Only one application is needed to be considered for all New Graduate Nurse RN openings within HCA Healthcare and the 7 hospitals in the Kansas City area: Belton Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee's Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Research Medical Center & Research Psychiatric Center.

About the role

The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Research Medical Center is a year-long, paid program designed to give you hands-on experience and establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be surrounded by a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents to promote learning, clinical application, and socialization as you transition from student nurse to registered nurse.

Opportunities at Research Medical Center include Medical Surgical, Inpatient Transplant/Renal Unit, Trauma/Ortho Unit, Inpatient Oncology, Cardiac PCU, Neuro PCU, PCU, Float Pool, Emergency Room, ICU, Neuro ICU, Burn ICU, and OR Surgery. Availability may change and vary by shift. Career growth beyond one year includes opportunities in Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, Infusion Clinic, Cath Lab, GI Lab, Pre Op, and PACU (new graduate nurses are not currently started in these areas).

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical provider(s).
• Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response.
• Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
• Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs.
• Teach patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures.
• Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
• Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department requirements and scope/standards of practice.
• Collaborate with medical providers and care team members to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage."
• Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience.

Requirements

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
• Other certifications may be required during employment.
• No previous experience needed.
• Some travel may be needed for training.
