About the Program

We are looking to develop the next generation of retail leadership at Sprouts Farmers Market - a Fortune 500 company and one of the fastest growing retailers in the United States. As you explore this opportunity within the Sprouts University Program, you’ll see that our goal is to bring in high-caliber talent and equip you with the resources you need to grow your career with us. This program will focus on the development of Assistant Store Managers (ASM), who are key in assisting with the efficient and profitable operations of the store. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager assumes complete responsibility for all phases of store operations.

Program Start Date: June 2027

Eligibility: You are within one year of graduation from a full-time bachelor's or master's degree program (May 2026 - May 2027 graduates)
Onboarding process: 10 weeks of in-store leadership and department-specific training followed by 10 weeks of on-the-job shadowing.

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with all departments and department-related activities throughout the store, assisting the Store Manager in ensuring cleanliness, safety, and a well-stocked inventory.
• Assist with forecasts, schedules, and monitor labor to align with store sales, productivity guidelines, and wage budgets; create action plans to address cost control issues.
• Direct, oversee, and evaluate the training of all perishable department team members to reduce turnover, promote efficient operations, and control labor costs.
• Develop and maintain communication with other departments and the Store Manager to execute merchandising plans and meet financial objectives.
• Manage department staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisals, scheduling, counseling, and terminating.
• Build, motivate, and maintain staff while possessing a working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Coordinate sales promotion activities, prepare merchandise displays, and supervise advertising copy.
• Ensure compliance with food safety procedures, including checking expiration dates on merchandise and removing expired items from shelves.
• Handle emergencies, crises, and daily store problems, including writing reports for accidents or incidents involving employees or customers.
• Maintain Food Safety certification and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations for labor, health, safety, and sanitation.
• Prioritize and manage multiple tasks with strong organization and planning skills.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting moderately heavy loads (up to 75 lbs.), bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, and standing for long periods.

Requirements

• Obtain or be in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree (targeting May 2026 through May 2027 graduates).
• Have retail experience or project exposure to the retail industry.
• Be dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and flexibility with store assignments.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to give direction while working in a team environment.
• Demonstrate an outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers in an engaging manner.
• Show proven leadership ability, including experience managing staff and understanding personnel reports, margin reports, and financial goals.
• Have strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
