New Form I-9

As of January 31, 2020, employers must use the updated Form I-9 (version date 10/21/2019) for employment eligibility verification. The prior version (Rev. 07/17/2017 N) may be used until April 30, 2020.

Changes to Form I-9

• Revised the Country of Issuance field in Section 1 and the Issuing Authority field in Section 2 to include Eswatini and North Macedonia (visible only in the fillable form on a computer).

Changes to Instructions

• Clarified who can act as an authorized representative on behalf of an employer.
• Updated USCIS website addresses.
• Provided clarifications on acceptable documents for Form I-9.
• Updated the process for requesting paper Forms I-9.
• Updated the DHS Privacy Notice.

A revised Spanish version of Form I-9 (version date 10/21/2019) is available for use in Puerto Rico only.
