New Equipment Receiving Mechanic - Temporary Position

About the role

This position works in the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Division of Maintenance and Operations, Fleet Services unit. The Fleet Services unit is responsible for the oversight of CDOT’s equipment and vehicle assets, including heavy and light fleets, the Equipment Management System, fuel management, procurement of road equipment, budgeting, inventory, Headquarters Motor Pool operations, joint management of CDOT’s light fleet with State Fleet Management, and administration of CDOT’s Automatic Vehicle Location systems.

Responsibilities

• Receive all new equipment/vehicles, heavy and over ¾ ton, such as bridge repair vehicles, loaders, pavers, rollers, plow trucks, excavators, backhoes, mowers, paint trucks, gradalls, pole cats, motor graders, bulldozers, hot boxes, lay down machines, forklifts, etc.
• Verify that all documentation used to register and pay for equipment (e.g., weight tickets, manufacturer’s certificates of origin, etc.) is included with delivery and sent to the correct personnel.
• Inspect equipment against specifications to verify compliance.
• Inspect used equipment to determine if it is suitable for continued use.
• Track equipment in surplus yard using shared spreadsheets.
• Operate forklift and front-end loader to move, load, and unload equipment.
• Process documentation for new and used equipment delivery and receiving.
• Enter data for vehicle enrollment into the SAP application.
• Generate and maintain spreadsheets for tracking, receiving, and delivering new and used vehicles and equipment.
• Document time from delivery to actual placement in service as well as the status of the check-in process and all required check-in forms.
• Install special equipment such as warning lights, radios, AVL hardware, and safety equipment.
• Prepare new vehicles for service by applying officially sanctioned decals and logos.
• Decommission vehicles and equipment by removing aftermarket equipment, decals, license plates, and other identifying markings.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment by cleaning the shop, benches, floor, and tools periodically.
• Ensure proper storage and disposal of waste by-products (e.g., dirty solvent, rags, and trash).
• Maintain proper storage by meeting all safety rules and regulations of chemicals used for automotive repair (e.g., paints, oils, other lubricants, and solvents).

Work environment

• Exposure to loud noise.
• Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc., that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin.
• Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products.
• Required to drive CDOT vehicles.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience with Auto/Diesel vehicles.
• A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience with Auto/Diesel vehicles equal to two (2) years.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License. If you currently live outside of Colorado and relocate to reside in Colorado, you must transfer your Driver’s License to Colorado within 30 days of relocation.
• Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.

Education

College Transcripts: If using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school, completed credit hours, and (if applicable) that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. The credential evaluation report must be an official report.
