About the Role
Join our team as a Driver Trainer and work with the industry leader in transportation. At Knight Transportation, we are committed to a culture of high expectations and exceptional performance. You will provide new drivers with hands-on instruction on essential driver skills, in-cab systems, telematics equipment, and professional expectations to ensure safe decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on instruction on foundational driving techniques such as close quarters maneuvering and backing.
- Conduct classroom-based training on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, company safety expectations, and policies.
- Ensure new drivers understand essential knowledge, including Hours of Service (HOS) recording via Electronic Logging Device (ELD), Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), cargo securement, and safe driving practices.
- Utilize learning stations, telematic tools, and company equipment to provide a comprehensive overview of resources.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure qualified candidates receive appropriate onboarding support.
- Complete daily proficiency documentation for each student and submit to program leadership.
- Evaluate each student’s driving techniques and comprehension of essential driver knowledge upon completion of instruction.
- Actively support teammates and contribute to organizational goals.
Requirements
- 2+ years of OTR experience required unless state law mandates additional years.
- Must qualify as a Class A CDL driver by meeting company requirements, including:
- Fewer than 3 moving violations within a 5-year period (no more than 1 within 12 months).
- Fewer than 2 suspensions within 3 years (excluding child support).
- No history of DUI or DWI within the last 5 years (or 1 within the last 15 years).
- Fewer than 2 preventable accidents within 5 years.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) road test.
- Appropriate state certification as a CDL Examiner if tasked with administering exams.
- Previous driving experience with Knight Transportation preferred.
- Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and stand for the majority of the shift.
- Exceptional communication skills and self-motivation.
- Engage in ongoing education relating to teaching skills to maintain post-secondary education requirements.
- Maintain Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) and Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) standards, including completing a minimum of two American Association for Vocational School modules annually.
Pay
Annual pay range: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00.
