About the role

Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking an experienced Neurophysiology Technician III to join their growing Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM) team. This advanced-level role is ideal for a highly skilled neurophysiology professional who thrives in a collaborative surgical environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IOM) procedures, including: Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP), Motor Evoked Potentials (MEP), Electromyography (EMG), Nerve Conduction Studies, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials, and other neurodiagnostic modalities.
  • Independently set up, monitor, troubleshoot, and interpret neurophysiologic waveforms during complex surgical procedures.
  • Collaborate with attending neurologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical staff to communicate significant intraoperative findings.
  • Select and modify appropriate monitoring montages and protocols based on surgical needs.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot IOM equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Train and mentor physicians, newly hired technicians, and junior neurophysiology staff.
  • Participate in departmental research, education, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with HIPAA and institutional policies.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Associate degree with formal training in Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM)
  • Current ABRET Certified in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Neurophysiology Technician II or equivalent advanced IOM experience
  • Successful completion of a Level III competency assessment
  • Demonstrated expertise performing complex intraoperative neuromonitoring cases independently
  • Experience using neurophysiology monitoring equipment, preferably Cadwell Surgical Studio
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment

Preferred

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Neuroscience, Biological Sciences, or a related field
  • Graduate of an ABRET-recognized NIOM Program

Working Environment

  • This role is primarily based in the operating room and outpatient neurophysiology settings.
  • The position requires prolonged standing or sitting, occasional lifting of equipment (20–50 lbs.), and working around surgical equipment in an environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens consistent with OSHA Category I requirements.

Pay

The base pay scale for this position is $52.59 - $57.19. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
