About the Role

As a neurologist at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail, you’ll deliver patient care and help strengthen neurology services for the community. This role combines office-based practice with collaboration alongside other specialists, providing inpatient and clinic care for patients across the Kootenay Boundary region. You’ll have access to diagnostic tools, including MRI, EEG, and EMG, to support your practice.

With support from the acute stroke service in Kelowna, you’ll work as part of a regional network providing coordinated care to communities including Nelson, Castlegar, Grand Forks, and Arrow Lakes. The role offers flexibility to shape your practice around your interests, such as movement disorders, seizures, or general neurology, and opportunities to develop services like a TIA clinic. You’ll also have teaching and mentoring opportunities through the UBC Faculty of Medicine and residency programs.

The hospital’s dedicated specialists cover a wide range of disciplines, including ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) underscores KBRH’s role as the regional hub for expert care of critically ill and injured patients.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this fee-for-service role is estimated at annual billings of $300,000–$500,000 for a full-time commitment, based on a combination of hospital-based and community practice. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.

• May be eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
  • Retention Premium: 11.48%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $17,791
• Relocation funding: Up to $9,000 for moves within BC, $12,000 for moves within Canada, and $15,000 for relocations from outside Canada. *Subject to change and confirmed at the time of offer.
• Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time.
• Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) funding: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during the 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years. *Subject to change and confirmed at the time of offer.
