About the Role

As a neurologist at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail, you’ll deliver patient care and help strengthen neurology services for the community. In this role, you’ll combine office-based practice with working alongside other specialists, providing inpatient and clinic care for patients across the Kootenay Boundary region. You’ll have access to diagnostic tools, including MRI, EEG, and EMG to support your practice.

With support from the acute stroke service in Kelowna, you’ll work as part of a network that provides coordinated care across the region, including Nelson, Castlegar, Grand Forks, and Arrow Lakes. You’ll have the flexibility to shape your practice around your interests, whether in movement disorders, seizures, or general neurology, and the opportunity to develop services such as a TIA clinic to support regional care.

You’ll have opportunities to teach and mentor through the UBC Faculty of Medicine and residency programs, integrating clinical teaching into your schedule alongside patient care.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is committed to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region. The hospital provides round-the-clock emergency and trauma care, as well as specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care.

The expertise of dedicated specialists at KBRH encompasses ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) highlights KBRH’s role as the regional hub for expert care of critically ill and injured patients.

Pay

Compensation is fee-for-service with estimated annual billings of $300,000–$500,000 for a full-time commitment, based on a combination of hospital-based and community practice. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.

Benefits

• Eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
  • Retention Premium: 11.48%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $17,791
• Relocation funding up to $9,000 for moves within BC, $12,000 within Canada, and $15,000 for relocations from outside Canada.
• Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time.
• Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) funding: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during the 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years.
