The Department of Neurology at VCU is a dynamic unit with over 50 faculty members dedicated to providing comprehensive neurological care.

Mission or Goal

The mission of the Department of Neurology is to offer the highest quality patient-centered neurological care within an intellectually stimulating environment, while also supporting the professional growth and engagement of all team members, including faculty, allied health professionals, staff, and learners.

Chief Purpose

The Department of Neurology seeks a full-time clinical faculty member to serve as the Neurohospitalist Director. This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Neurology and will be responsible for establishing and leading a Neurohospitalist Service that provides inpatient neurology and neurology consultation services across the VCU Health System, including the VCU Hospital in Richmond, and teleconsultation services to regional hospitals in South Hill and Tappahannock.

Position Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Care of patients in the inpatient setting.
  • Teaching: Medical students, neurology fellows, and critical care fellows from other services.
  • Research: Participation and leadership in clinical and translational research projects.
  • Service: Committee involvement and professional activities in the field.

Qualifications

  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • MD/DO with residency training at an accredited institution.
  • Eligibility for licensure in Virginia.
  • BC/BE in Neurology.
  • At least 3-5 years experience as a Neurohospitalist.
  • Understanding and appreciation for the three missions of research, education, and clinical care in academic medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an inclusive environment.
