About the Role

The schedule will be a Sunday-Thursday position either 7:30a-4p or 8a-4:30p. The position will also include a rotation of overnight EEG on-call likely once every 15 or so weeks and also include at least one holiday day shift coverage for 12 hours 7a-7:30p.

Responsibilities

  • Performs adult/pediatric Neurodiagnostic testing including Nerve Conduction Studies, Autonomic Nervous System Testing (QSART, Valsalva Maneuver, Heart Rate, Deep breathing and Tilt table testing), EEG and other special studies as needed.
  • Explains the test procedure to the patient, provides patient education, applies all recording, monitoring and stimulating electrodes, recognizes and eliminates artifact, calibrates all equipment used and troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions, selects appropriate amplifier settings and obtains quality data.
  • Provides technical descriptions of studies.
  • Verifies patient, physician's orders and gathers appropriate information from chart and/or interviews the patient/caregiver to provide accurate history.
  • Inventory of supplies, checks all equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness including corrections of malfunctions.
  • Performs Neurodiagnostic tests according to standards of the laboratory; including Nerve conduction studies, autonomic testing, scanning for the specific neuromuscular ultrasound studies selected by the physician.
  • Provides technical interpretation of results and communicates urgent findings immediately with interpreting Physicians.
  • Aids with special studies, participates in training technologists, fellows, residents under the supervision of the EMG coordinator and lab medical director.
  • Records EEG according to standards of the laboratory including the 10-20 system, provides initial interpretation of results and communicates urgent findings immediately with Epilepsy physicians.
  • Reviews EEG files and saves appropriate sections for physician review which may include clipping and pruning for long term monitoring (LTM).
  • Schedules appointments for patient testing and maintains communication across the inpatient units.
  • Charts, routes reports and ensures billing accuracy/timeliness.
  • Participates in teaching conferences and technical meetings.
  • Maintains CEUs/Credentials.
  • Adheres to State & Federal regulations and successfully complies with regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • BCLS (required)
  • Must achieve registry in EEG or CNCT within 2 years of hire (required)
  • Registered/Certified in Nerve conduction studies (R. NCS T. or CNT) or Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist R. EEG T. (preferred).

Education or Equivalent Experience

  • Associate's degree in Science or Neurodiagnostic related field (preferred).
  • Intensive care unit experience.
  • Proficient in non-imaging TCDs (preferred).
  • Completion of an accredited Neurodiagnostic program or 3+ years of prior experience in an outpatient EMG Lab (required).

Credentials

  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • If applicable, current R.NCS T. or CNT or R.EEG.T certification preferred.
