Neurodiagnostic Tech Level 1 - Per Diem

About the Role

As a Neurodiagnostic Technologist Level 1 at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will perform standard and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures with moderate supervision, adhering to established standards and practices. This role involves providing technical assistance and training to students, completing necessary documentation, and supporting departmental functions, goals, and new program development for the Neurodiagnostic Lab and Epilepsy Unit.

Responsibilities

• Electrode Placement: Utilize the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark, and apply electrodes to predetermined positions on the patient's scalp, routinely achieving impedance levels below 10k ohms.
• Routine EEGs: Perform standard EEG recordings (awake, asleep, bedside, isolation, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal) according to departmental protocols. Adapt methods and instrumentation based on history, clinical observations, and EEG findings. Compile pertinent patient data and complete technical and professional billing.
• Video EEGs: Perform standard Video EEG Long Term Monitoring recordings, maintain electrode integrity, and collect patient information for test interpretation. Adapt methods to optimize results and complete technical billing.
• Evoked Potentials: Perform Visual Evoked Potentials, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials according to ACNS guidelines, ensuring technical quality of recordings.
• Support During Seizures: Provide supportive patient care and detailed observations during seizures or emergencies. Assess patient’s memory, language, and ability to follow commands, notify interpreting physicians, and place EMS calls if needed.
• Customer/Peer Relations: Work collaboratively with team members and physicians, build strong relationships with patients and families, and promote a unified workplace.
• Departmental Protocols: Follow all department protocols and policies as outlined in the Departmental Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Neurodiagnostic Equipment: Maintain equipment in good working order, perform minor adjustments, report major repairs, and clean equipment according to manufacturer and HMH guidelines.
• Continuing Education: Enhance professional growth through annual participation in educational programs, in-services, workshops, and online CME opportunities.
• Safety and Infection Control: Practice universal precautions, follow infection control policies, maintain a safe environment, and report Risk Management concerns. Complete all mandatory annual requirements.
• Other Duties: Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Perform additional duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft or Google productivity suite.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
• Eligible for ABRET registration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

• Exerts up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs to move objects.
• Potential exposure to hazardous substances, chemicals, equipment, reagents, blood-borne pathogens, and airborne contaminants.
• Potential exposure to patient blood, body fluids, or other contaminants.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $29.38 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, retirement benefits, and shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
