Mission or Goal of Unit: As clinicians, educators, and investigators in the evolving field of Neurosurgery, our mission is to improve the health of all people by excelling in patient care, education, and research.
Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking candidates for a Neuro-Oncologist to contribute to our tripart mission at the VCU School of Medicine. VCU Neurological Surgery has a rich tradition of clinical and academic accomplishments with broad impact. Over 100+ years, VCU Neurosurgery has catalyzed transformative advances in the care of neurosurgical disorders, and we are committed to the ideal that such advances depend on exceptional, scientifically-informed clinical care across all areas of neurosurgery. This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Neuro-Oncology, Department of Neurosurgery.
Responsibilities
- Primary clinical responsibilities include care of Neuro-oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will be expected to participate in a series of formal conferences for the housestaff and students emphasizing issues in Neuro-oncology. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.
- The faculty member will be expected to participate in and, when appropriate, lead, clinical research and clinical trials.
- Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Qualifications
- MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
- Successful completion of a neurology residency and neuro-oncology fellowship at accredited institutions
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia
- Board certification or board eligible in Neurology (ABPN) and Neuro-Oncology (UCNS)
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
