Network Technician I

Introduction

Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is seeking a Network Infrastructure Technician with a strong background in:

• Working in a structured cabling environment.
• Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling.
• Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling.
• Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.
• Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe.
• Decommissioning obsolete networking cabling infrastructure.
• Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays.
• Aiding in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling.

Position Details

Hourly position based upon experience & skill level.
Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm
Location: Customer site - Tempe, AZ
Client Addendum will need to be followed. Copy will be provided at the time of candidates offer.

Other Responsibilities Include

• Patching cabling between network equipment and customer's network.
• Installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment.
• Install/swap out cables, switches, routers and etc.
• Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels.
• Perform layer 1 troubleshooting.
• Support carrier testing of circuits.
• Aid in facilities efforts.
• Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoration.
• Water problems restoration.
• Cooling restoration.
• Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.
• Interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management.

Requirements

• Appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport.
• The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections.
• The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics.
• The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.
• Experience and education: 2-5 years relevant experience, preferably at least 1 year in a data center environment.
• In-depth knowledge of structured cabling.
• Knowledge of IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy Work: May frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and/or occasionally exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 100 pounds.
• Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.
• Near Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
• Midrange: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
• Far Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
• Peripheral: Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point.
• Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision.
• Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
• Ability to adjust focus: Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
• Color Vision: Ability to identify colors.
• Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills.
• Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
