Network / Systems Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Network / Systems Engineer to join a locally owned managed services provider serving organizations across healthcare, education, government, nonprofit, and commercial sectors. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is ideal for a senior technical specialist who can take ownership of complex infrastructure work while building trusted client relationships.

About the role

This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and direct collaboration with customers to deliver stable, secure, and well-documented IT environments. The position is onsite in Albuquerque with monthly travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, and maintain network and server environments that support a diverse client portfolio across multiple industries.
• Resolve advanced connectivity and infrastructure issues involving routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, and secure remote access technologies.
• Direct infrastructure initiatives such as upgrades, migrations, and other client-focused technical projects from planning through completion.
• Manage core Microsoft platforms, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and hybrid environments.
• Oversee operational reliability by coordinating patch management, endpoint protection, backup processes, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Act as the senior escalation point for support staff at the entry level, providing guidance on complex incidents and helping develop technical capability across the team.
• Meet with clients to understand business needs, recommend practical solutions, and contribute to technical planning and design discussions.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation, configuration records, and project updates to support service quality and continuity.
• Participate in an after-hours on-call schedule to help ensure timely support for critical client issues.
• Other duties as needed.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience supporting and engineering IT infrastructure environments.
• Strong background in networking concepts and technologies, including firewalls, routing, switching, and VPN connectivity.
• Demonstrated experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Ubiquiti, Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, or SonicWall.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and translate technical issues into clear recommendations.
• Experience working in a managed services or multi-client support environment is strongly preferred.
• Relevant technical certifications, such as Network+, Security+, Microsoft, or Fortinet credentials, are highly valued.
• Valid New Mexico driver’s license and willingness to travel to client locations as needed.
• Background check required prior to employment.
