About the Role

This position is an experienced network security engineer responsible for the deployment, configuration, and administration of network security resources. The role requires the ability to document and illustrate network topology diagrams, including the physical installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of related equipment and services. The Network Security Engineer collaborates with various teams and stakeholders to provide support and administrative services, typically reporting to the Manager, Network Security.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the research, installation, configuration, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of security systems and services.
  • Implements controls and procedures to protect information systems from unauthorized or accidental modification, disclosure, or destruction, under the guidance of Team Leads or Management.
  • Provides unassisted support to application owners, project managers, vendors, and end-users.
  • Works on teams and completes tasks for all levels of projects, accountable for meeting and setting project timelines.
  • Recommends technical standards and participates in designing and planning advanced security systems or services.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to Security Analyst(s) and researches/recommends new security tools and technology.
  • Covers a 7x24 shift of on-call support, rotating weekly among the Information Security Cyber Operations team.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Promotes professional growth and development, supports department goals, and serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for the community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.

Requirements

  • Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in:
    • Configuring network devices (switch, router, access point, firewall)
    • Creating detailed topology diagrams and technical documentation
    • Troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Strong understanding of the OSI model and well-known ports.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory Users and Groups.
  • Experience with packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark).
  • Knowledge of common malware, cyber-attacks, and types of attackers.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for successful teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, preferred.
  • Entry-level networking and security certification (e.g., PCNSA, CCENT, Network+, Security+) preferred.

Skills

  • Independent task performance and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and provide mentorship.
  • Proficiency in technical documentation and standards recommendation.
