About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer specializing in Network Security Monitoring to join Target's Cybersecurity team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring cybersecurity visibility requirements are met through collaboration with Target's broader Network Engineering organization. You will work closely with cybersecurity stakeholders to develop, refine, and improve our network visibility posture, enabling the detection of network-based threats effectively.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and support network traffic analysis hardware, platforms, and monitoring tools
- Collaborate with cybersecurity stakeholders to develop and enhance network visibility strategies
- Analyze network traffic to identify operational and security-related issues
- Develop and tune security rules for platforms like Zeek and Suricata to improve threat detection
- Maintain and support Linux-based systems, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting operational issues
- Design high-performance deployments, both bare metal and containerized, for network monitoring workloads
- Automate operational workflows using scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go
- Develop and maintain monitoring and validation frameworks to ensure operational reliability
- Document engineering solutions through detailed diagrams and technical reports
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging security technologies to continually improve monitoring capabilities
Qualifications
- 4-year degree or equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years of experience in network engineering, network visibility architecture, and design
- Proven expertise in deploying, supporting, and optimizing network traffic analysis hardware and monitoring tools
- Strong understanding of network protocols and traffic analysis for operational and security issues
- Excellent communication skills, capable of creating detailed technical diagrams and documentation
- Experience in analyzing and optimizing system capacity, performance, and scalability
- Deep technical knowledge within core networking domains and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to continuous learning through formal training, research, and self-directed study
