Network Security Engineer
About the role
NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²) is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, operating at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance high‑performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision‑making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.
As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you will manage, implement, and optimise a hyperscale network security infrastructure. You will serve as a technical leader overseeing complex security architecture initiatives, mentoring peer engineers, handling escalated incident response efforts, and ensuring compliance with the latest security standards. The role emphasizes automation, requiring a strong background in and interest in leveraging automation technologies.

- Implement and manage advanced security solutions using firewalls, proxies, system hardening, threat profiling, and segmentation strategies to protect intellectual data.
- Act as the lead escalation point for critical security incidents.
- Develop automation playbooks, network security policy frameworks, and consolidation models; drive root‑cause analysis with corrective actions.
- Oversee network vulnerability assessments, coordinate penetration testing, and plan remediation.
- Champion integration of automated tools for infrastructure build, day‑two support, and lifecycle management of security infrastructure using platforms such as Python, Terraform, vendor APIs, Algosec, Tufin, Jenkins, and Git.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure, DevOps, and application teams to embed security best practices throughout the technology stack.

- Expertise with multiple security vendors such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, and F5.
- Strong understanding of Zero Trust principles, segmentation, and secure cloud networking in AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCIE Security, GIAC GSEC/GCIH/GXPN, Palo Alto, Fortinet) are highly preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
