Network Security Engineer

About the role
The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the security infrastructure of our network to safeguard against cyber threats and unauthorized access. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network security principles, protocols, and technologies, along with hands-on experience in firewall management, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security incident response. This role reports directly to the Director of Infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain network security solutions to protect against threats and vulnerabilities.
- Configure and manage firewall devices, including rule creation, access control, and VPN tunnel configuration.
- Maintain core switches, firewalls (Palo Alto), and functional networks.
- Administer and maintain our hybrid networks between on-premises and AWS Cloud Availability Zones.
- Administer all security updates and carefully document network changes.
- Interpret existing configurations and understand how the systems fit into the overall network design.
- Deploy and monitor intrusion detection/prevention systems to detect and protect against malicious activities.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments to identify and remediate security weaknesses.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide incident response, analysis support, containment, and recovery efforts during security incidents.
- Stay up to date on emerging threats and preventive steps to ensure our highest-level security posture.

Requirements
- BA/BS degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of current networking protocols and standards.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Extensive knowledge of Cisco and Palo Alto networks.
- Working knowledge of AWS networking standards.
- Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft networks.
