We build networks and communities, and we’re looking for a Network Fiber Technician to help deliver maximum operating efficiency in our Outside Plant operations in Romeoville, IL.

About the role

As a Network Fiber Technician you will terminate, splice, bond/ground, document, and test all fiber-optic cables within the system’s fiber-optic networks and related equipment. The role involves outdoor work and exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, test, and maintain Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for POTS, DSL, and networking services
  • Install and maintain CPE Local Area Networks (LAN) and WiFi networks
  • Install and maintain Network Interface Devices (NID) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT)
  • Perform skilled troubleshooting from the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) to the demarcation point, including CPE
  • Respond to trouble tickets within company timeframe standards
  • Install Outside Plant (OSP) facilities according to engineered work orders or service orders
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems
  • Conduct cable/fiber testing and splicing
  • Locate fiber-optic cabling
  • Record and report all record changes immediately
  • Complete inventory replenish requests as needed
  • Work other duties as assigned, including on-call rotation after regular business hours
  • Travel for training as needed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One to two years in the telecommunications industry or related experience
  • Trade school training is desired
  • Professional demeanor with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to meet key performance metrics
  • Physical ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 25 feet with proper equipment
  • Able to lift and carry loads of up to 75 lbs, including ladders
  • Ability to work with basic hand tools and specialized equipment after training
  • Operate and maintain a company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally, including a DOT-certified bucket truck and trailer
  • Available to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed
  • Willingness to work both as part of a team and independently

Pay

$24 – $28 per hour, based on experience.
