About the role
The Structured Cabling/Technology Systems Estimator/Designer position works closely with our sales team, clients, and project teams to provide an understanding of the client needs and produce an estimate of materials and labor to provide the services to meet those needs.
Responsibilities
- Review Request for Proposals (RFP) with Team
- Develop Request for Information’s (RFI) as needed
- Review & Understand Specifications as required of the RFP
- Perform physical take-offs of plans for counts of materials
- Compile information to provide an accurate cost model/estimate of labor and materials
- Interact with Distributors and Manufacturers for product pricing
- Write up of services to be performed based on plans and specifications
- Utilize industry knowledge to assess accuracy of RFP
- Conduct site surveys when necessary
- Identify Scope Gap that is necessary for a complete and operational system
- Design Structured Cabling Systems when required
- Compile to turn over documentation for Operations Team
- Prepare job specific submittals
- Prepare Change Orders as necessary
- Represent Walker Engineering at Trade Shows and other Industry Events
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in structured cabling construction
- Industry Certifications: RCDD strongly preferred, Other BICSI Certifications a plus
- Manufacturer (CommScope, Panduit, etc.) Knowledge of Cabling Standards (BICSI, EIA/TIA)
- Estimating/Design experience with: Mission Critical / Datacenters (Hyperscale, Colo, Enterprise, etc), Commercial Office Buildings, Manufacturing, Healthcare (Hospitals, MOB, etc)
- Experience estimating projects between $1M - $5M and higher
- Conceptual Project Budgeting/Cost Modeling
- Field Installation knowledge/experience a plus
- Audio/Visual and Security Systems knowledge/experience a plus
- Strong Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel & Word a must)
- Working knowledge of computing programs
