About the Company

Founded in 2020, Nascent is a forward‑thinking firm dedicated to building, expanding, and capturing opportunities within open markets and permissionless technologies. With a foundation rooted in permanent capital, the company deploys assets across a diverse array of liquid and long‑term strategies, positioning itself among the most active participants in the open financial system. Nascent has backed over 100 early‑stage teams that possess the potential to revolutionize markets and broaden the scope of what is possible. The organization combines venture‑capital expertise with market knowledge and leverages product‑grade engineering to convert research into revenue. Its focus areas include low‑latency infrastructure, resilient systems, and innovative models that aim to enhance performance over time. Nascent fosters a culture of experimentation, rapid iteration, and continuous learning, driven by a team of interdisciplinary engineers, quants, and operators committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and finance.

About the Role

The Opportunity at Nascent offers a unique chance to own and optimize the network infrastructure critical to high‑frequency trading and execution systems. As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the low‑latency network topology that connects Nascent’s trading platforms to exchanges, colocation facilities, and internal systems. This hands‑on role involves managing colocation cross‑connects, exchange connectivity, and ensuring precise time synchronization across all infrastructure components. You will work closely with systems engineers, site‑reliability engineers (SREs), and quantitative teams to treat deterministic performance as a core engineering discipline. Unlike traditional NOC roles, this position provides direct ownership of architecture decisions, vendor relationships, and automation tooling, allowing you to design connectivity solutions from scratch and troubleshoot complex network issues end‑to‑end. Your work will directly impact trade execution speed and reliability, making this an essential role within the organization.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in L2/L3 networking within latency‑sensitive, colocation, or trading environments
  • Strong working knowledge of BGP and OSPF routing protocols, including configuration, troubleshooting, and design
  • Experience with precision time synchronization protocols such as PTP (IEEE 1588) or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Python for network automation, configuration management, and operational tooling
  • Hands‑on experience managing firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, or similar)
  • Proficiency in packet capture and protocol‑level troubleshooting tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed network diagrams, runbooks, and infrastructure documentation
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to own incidents from triage to resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical decisions for cross‑functional teams
  • Geographical location within ± 3 hours EST

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage colocation connectivity, including cross‑connects, exchange feeds, and carrier relationships across production facilities
  • Design and maintain low‑latency Layer 2 and Layer 3 network topologies tailored for trading systems
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF in a live environment
  • Maintain and calibrate precision time synchronization systems (PTP/IEEE 1588) across all infrastructure components
  • Manage firewall policies, including configuration changes that directly impact production traffic flows
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tooling using Python for network configuration and operational monitoring
  • Perform packet captures and protocol analysis to troubleshoot network issues effectively
  • Create and update comprehensive runbooks, network diagrams, and infrastructure documentation
  • Participate in on‑call rotations, owning incident response and post‑mortem analysis to ensure swift resolution and continuous improvement

Benefits

  • Opportunity to learn, experiment, and build within an entrepreneurial environment
  • Remote‑first, distributed team with periodic in‑person sprints and retreats
  • Competitive total compensation package with performance‑based bonuses
  • Hardware and home‑office stipends to support a productive remote work environment
  • Conference and learning budgets to foster continuous professional development
  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance and wellness programs
  • Open vacation policy with flexible work hours and locations
  • 16 weeks of fully‑paid parental leave, along with supported return‑to‑work programs
  • Retirement matching program to help plan for the future

Nascent is an equal‑opportunity employer and values diversity in its workforce. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all employees are treated with respect and fairness, regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, or background.
