Network Engineer, III (LAN/Wireless/Traveling) Tier 3

Responsibilities
- Travel to remote sites for survey, installation and upgrade of network equipment.
- Tier 3 escalation point for complex LAN/Wireless issues escalated from Tier 2 engineers.
- Configure and support wireless systems.
- Architecture design and systems implementation of middle‑of‑row to core connectivity.
- IOS layer 2 and layer 3 configuration and support.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Tier 2 LAN Engineers.
- Design, implement, and manage LAN/Wireless infrastructure projects.
- Perform network performance monitoring and optimization.
- Develop and maintain network documentation and diagrams.
- Network design and configuration of OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, and static routing solutions.
- Plan and schedule upgrades (including weekends or off‑duty hours) and release necessary notifications to the field.
- Mitigate vulnerabilities affecting switches.
- Firewall and load‑balancing support.
- Provide root cause analysis of any outage during authorized hardware refresh windows.
- Review site designs for pathways and support systems, including multi‑floor pathways and penetrations for fiber‑optic or copper backbones.
- Use Ekahau Sidekick for site survey and planning.
- Collaborate with other IT teams for integrated system solutions.
- Typically perform all functional duties independently.
- Create regular progress reports on project status.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of IT work experience; additional experience may be substituted for the degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of applicable network experience and support.
- Proven experience with networking, troubleshooting, and customer service.
- Expertise in LAN protocols, technologies, and architecture design.
- Experience with LAN design, implementation, and management, including deploying LAN solutions for large, complex facilities.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve network issues.
- Experience with Ekahau or other Wi‑Fi site‑survey and planning tools.
- Capable of installing, configuring, operating, and supporting Cisco and other vendor network equipment and products.
- Ability to determine whether additional measures are required beyond those provided by deployed infrastructure tools.
- Experience with other wireless solutions such as Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, and Fortinet.
- Experience performing switch acceptance for new field sites.
- Experience with site reviews for Cisco networks, including circuit capacity, switch types, and IOS.
- Experience using direct measurements or design documents to advise on infrastructure, reliability, and performance issues.
- Capable of configuring networking parameters for operating systems and network devices.
- Capable of reading syslog output, sniffer logs, security logs, and networking sections of application and OS logs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.
Additional Provisions
- All candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent‑status Green Card holder.
- Pass a client‑mandated clearance process, including drug screening, criminal history check, and credit check.
- Cannot have more than six months of travel outside the United States within the last five years.
- Military service excluded (exception does not include military family members).
Schedule
This role requires extensive travel (50 % or greater). When not traveling, the resource works on‑site in Raleigh, NC. The position currently allows hybrid work, with reporting to the office four days a week; the hybrid schedule may change in the future.
