Job Summary
Conducts surveys, inspections, tours, and simulates system level performance. Works closely with field engineers to identify and resolve network security issues. Develops network designs for different service levels and prepares design documents, specifications, and test plans. Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots complex network problems, and supports a 24/7 on-call schedule.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
- Work with field engineers to simulate system level performance and provide feedback.
- Assist senior engineers in identifying and resolving network security issues.
- Develop network designs for each service level classification.
- Prepare design documents for small projects and large programs.
- Assist senior engineers in preparing narrative design documents, systems designs, subsystem designs, CAD, panels, layouts, wiring, hardware, communications, specifications, and test plans.
- Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
- Author test plans, leads/testing activities, and prepares test reports.
- Commission deployed systems.
- Generate standard PITCO plans and procedures.
- Design and perform complete system integration tests.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex network problems and recommend operational efficiency improvements.
- Perform preventative maintenance, software/hardware/firmware upgrades, and security updates.
- Originates and submits maintenance plans and provides rollback plans.
- Supports team members during paid time off.
- Performs hardware/software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
- Documents crucial working procedures and troubleshoots network operations.
- Employs moderate understanding of network administration to assist team members in resolving basic/moderate network/telecom issues.
- Interprets and analyzes results against established benchmarks and goals.
- Works with project managers to meet expectations for network tasks.
- Contributes to team and related teams through quality and accuracy of output.
- Performs research on available technologies and products as needed by the Operations or Project managers.
- Prepares cost estimates and supporting documents for projects.
- Aids senior engineers in preparing bids and proposals, including cost estimates and supporting documentation.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to define work/interfaces.
Qualifications
- Citizen Type: Active Secret Clearance required.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), or a related discipline, plus 5+ years of progressive experience.
- Technical Skills: Understanding of ITIL concepts, security issues, network concepts, technologies, tools, and philosophies, knowledge of system development methodology, project management, system architecture, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral, technical writing, and presentation skills, ability to build productive relationships, and establish working relationships with others outside area of expertise.
- Behavioral Skills: Ability to balance high quality standards with schedule pressures in a demanding environment, resourcefulness, flexibility, proactivity, solution orientation, and customer orientation.
- Preferred Experience: Reading network and connectivity schematics, network system startup/configuration/calibration, testing and troubleshooting, use of basic electrical and machinist hand tools, use of testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software (spectrum analyzer, cable tester, alignment tool).
- Tools/Software: Knowledge of one or more IT/Network platforms (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Arista), standard network software (Visio, Wireshark, Putty, CLI), and cybersecurity and STIG applications to network systems.
