Network & DNS Infrastructure Architect
About the role
DNS / DDI Architect (Architect / Strategic) role focused on stabilizing DNS environment after recent outage, improving monitoring, telemetry, automation, and defining long-term DNS future state. Responsibilities include evaluating and recommending improvements, providing oversight, guidance, and governance. Requires deep DNS knowledge (RFCs, BIND, DDI) and platform flexibility (Blue Cat, Infoblox preferred but not required). Not focused on day‑to‑day configuration but may involve hands‑on work for complex production issues. Expected first 90 days: learn Vanguard environment, technologies, layout; identify and begin implementing improvements.
That covers short/medium/long term.Responsibilities
- Stabilize the DNS environment post‑outage.
- Apply DNS best practices (monitoring, telemetry, automation, resiliency).
- Define the future‑state DNS architecture.
- Evaluate whether to expand functionality or consider alternative vendors/platforms.
- Provide architectural guidance and governance‑level input rather than just execution.
- Cross‑training and enterprise architecture alignment.
- Mentorship and guidance for existing engineers and contractors.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in DDI fundamentals (DNS, RFCs, BIND‑level knowledge).
- Strong enterprise architecture experience; platform‑agnostic mindset.
- BlueCat experience is a plus, but not required.
- Infoblox backgrounds are acceptable, with the expectation that BlueCat can be learned.
- Familiarity with: DNS, BlueCat, Akamai (limited internal depth today; opportunity to add value here).
- Experience in enterprise‑scale, high‑complexity environments (Vanguard described as ~9–9.5/10 in onboarding complexity).
Skills
- Deep expertise in DDI, RFCs, BIND.
- Platform flexibility (Blue Cat or Infoblox).
- Enterprise‑level architecture experience.
- Ability to provide guidance and evaluate improvements across large‑scale, complex environments.
- Strategic, governance‑oriented perspective (not purely operational).
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other insurance plans (optional financial protection).
- ESPP (employee stock purchase program) and 401K with company match after 12 months of tenure.
- HSA (Health Savings Account on the HDHP plan).
- SupportLinc Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – up to 8 free counseling sessions.
- Corporate discount savings program and other discounts.
- Professional development: on‑demand training, certification prep, library of technical and leadership courses/books/seminars (after 6+ months tenure), certification discounts and perks for CompTIA, IIBA, etc.
- Dedicated customer service team for Consultants and a certified Career Coach.
- Full benefits details available in the Welcome Packet.
Environment & Context
- Vanguard IT transforming from a small IT shop to an enterprise organization.
- Environment complexity rated ~8.5–9/10 for onboarding and architecture considerations.
- Recent outage and past underinvestment drive need for strategic oversight.
- Governance: architecture review board involvement depends on scope of changes; smaller changes may not require board approval.
- Metrics: no formal DNS uptime/resiliency targets; standard organizational goals apply.
or drop it. Priority is minor metadata; we could drop or include in a short p. Probably drop. Also "Hiring & Interview Logistics" includes hiring model, interview process, locations. That's substantive for candidate. Should we include? The instruction: "Do NOT repeat the job title as a heading (the page already shows it) and do NOT put Job ID / requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it." Hiring logistics might be considered metadata but could be relevant. However, the instruction says to prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones. We already have several sections. Adding a Hiring & Interview Logistics section may be thin but contains info: hiring model (contract or contract-to-hire), interview process steps, locations. Could be included as a section "Hiring Process". But we need to see if it's considered boilerplate? It's specific to the role. The instruction says remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. Hiring logistics is not exactly application instructions; it's about interview process. Might be okay to include. But we need to decide: The instruction says "Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones." We already have About the role, Responsibilities, Skills, Benefits, Environment & Context (5 sections). Adding another may be okay if it's substantive. However, the hiring process details are specific: "Hiring Model All candidates must be hireable as contract or contract-to-hire. Contract onboarding is significantly faster (typically a few weeks once an offer is made). Interview Process (Typical Flow) Initial screening by Andrew (culture fit, relevant experience). Technical interview with the team. Final interviews with Neil and Bill. There is discussion about potentially compressing this to two steps, depending on standardization efforts. Locations: 1041 West Valley Road Wayne, Pennsylvania 19087 7900 Windrose Ave Plano, Texas 75024 2525 Water Ridge Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28217". That's substantive. We could add a section "Hiring & Location". But we need to avoid too many sections. Maybe we can fold location into About the role as a short paragraph. The instruction says fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it. Location could be considered minor metadata. However, it's three specific addresses; could be useful. I'd include as a short p under About the role or a separate small section "Location". But to keep sections few, maybe add a short p under About the role. Let's incorporate location into About the role after the first paragraph. Also hiring model and interview process could be a short p under About the role as well. But we already have About the role paragraph long; we could add another paragraph. Let's restructure About the role to include: role description, first 90 days, environment/context? Actually we moved environment/context to its own section. So About the role can focus on role purpose, short/medium/long term, first 90 days, hiring model, interview process, location. We need to ensure we don't duplicate. Let's craft final HTML:
