Network Development Engineer, Network Fabric Engineering
About the role
The Core Networking team is looking for a Sr. Network Development Engineer to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Engineer, you will be responsible for building, deploying and scaling the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters.
AWS Core Networking is focused on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. We own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected. Core Networking's goal is to balance efficiency, performance and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Key job responsibilities
- Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation
- Create network designs, services, and deployment procedures that solve for many requirements
- Design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred
- Create and defend High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents
- Work with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps
- Construct and test your solutions, and provide support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs
- Create and automate deployment processes that increases quality and velocity
- Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent
- 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills
- 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment
- 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos
- 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, shell
Preferred Qualifications
- A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience
- Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus
- Expert-level scripting and or automation skills in a network environment
- Software development/programming skills are a plus
Pay
Base salary range: $159,100.00 - $215,300.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.

Schedule
- Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail
- Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed
