Network Development Engineer II - Wireless, OTIE Wireless Engineering
About the role
Description OpsTech IT Wireless and Access Engineering owns delivering software-defined, automated, and incrementally scalable Wireless/Access network infrastructure products that improve the reliability of our wireless services for Amazon’s fulfillment centers and transportation sites, worldwide. These wireless solutions are used by hundreds of thousands of associates, relied upon by operators of industry-leading fulfillment and transportation systems, and play a critical role in the delivery of shipments to Amazon retail customers.
Responsibilities
- Identify themes and areas of improvement and deliver the software and design changes needed to affect change, by partnering with peer teams, coaching less tenured engineers to deliver on your behalf, or executing on your own.
- Evaluate new technologies, lab test, proof of concept (PoC), run books definition, and pilot deployment.
- Innovate and automate infrastructure testing, deployment, operations, and life cycle management.
- Define the strategy for future team processes, tools, and procedures, which improve how we maintain and manage them effectively, efficiently, and safely.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Create and update the wireless network design to improve reliability.
- Mitigate and solve network availability risks.
- Partner with peer networking teams on overall network design to provide feedback and improvements from the wireless network perspective.
- Implement metrics to measure wireless availability and identify performance risks.
Requirements
Key job responsibilities include identifying, developing, and delivering technical solutions that improve the availability of our wireless network technologies; partnering with peer teams to collectively interpret customer problems and find technological solutions utilizing wired networking technologies; defining and measuring the availability of our existing and future network solutions, ensuring they meet or exceed the needs of our customers; identifying and delivering solutions that reduce operational impact to customers and enable them with scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized services; diving deep on complex problems that identify root causes of our customer impacts, developing and delivering corrective actions; evaluating new technologies, lab testing, proof of concept (PoC), run books definition, and pilot deployment; innovating and automating infrastructure testing, deployment, operations, and life cycle management; defining the strategy for future team processes, tools, and procedures, which improve how we maintain and manage them effectively, efficiently, and safely; being a part of a global organization that provides 24x7 escalation service on shift rotation basis; some night and weekend coverage may be required; effectively contributing to hiring and developing top talent at Amazon; investigating challenging problems to identify root cause and make recommendations for improving the customers' experience on Wifi; creating and updating the wireless network design to improve reliability; mitigating and solving network availability risks; participating in an on-call rotation; implementing metrics to measure wireless availability and identify performance risks.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience.
- Experience in wireless system design and architecture, system integration, and RF system analysis.
- Deep understanding of IP network fundamentals and packet capture analysis.
- Analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience.
- Experience with IP networking fundamentals and TCP/IP, UDP, DNS & DHCP.
- MS in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or related fields.
- Security related certifications (SANS, ISC2, etc.).
