This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS) within HII’s Mission Technologies division. The Global Security group delivers live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) solutions; fleet sustainment; nuclear and environmental services; and Australia business operations. As a trusted partner to military customers, HII designs, develops, and operates the largest LVC enterprise to prepare warfighters for cross-domain battle. For over 40 years, the U.S. Navy has relied on HII to maintain and modernize the majority of its fleet, ensuring readiness through a holistic approach to life-cycle maritime defense systems—from small watercraft to submarines, surface combatants, and aircraft carriers. HII also supports the Department of Energy’s national security mission by managing and operating its sites and addressing legacy waste cleanup challenges.

About the role

The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Network Control Technician is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and cybersecurity defense of the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN) client, server, and network infrastructure. This infrastructure supports enterprise-wide modeling and simulation applications and services for NITE. The role involves close coordination with team members and other departments to update, monitor, and maintain servers, workstations, and network devices across the enterprise.

Additional duties include Microsoft Windows client/server administration, maintenance, patching, and configuring systems in compliance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG). The position requires flexibility, as duties may be adjusted to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements. The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains smooth operation of local area, wide area, and virtual private networks (VPN).
  • Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication networks.
  • Maintains technical expertise in network and computer hardware/software interconnection, including routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, and gateways.
  • Proposes solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements are met based on future needs and current usage, optimizing cost savings.
  • Ensures appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provides regular monitoring and network analysis for short- and long-range planning of in-house systems.
  • Coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment as needed.
  • Designs network or portions of networks, including selection of hardware and software packages.

Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 3 years with a Master’s degree; or 0 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field. Alternatively, a High School Diploma or equivalent with 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Security+ or equivalent certification.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Windows desktop operating systems.
  • Experience with Cisco switching and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Experience digesting and implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG).
  • Experience with patching Microsoft servers and workstations.
  • Experience with VMware.
  • Ability to read and digest technical information.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is $86,147 - $110,000 per year. When extending an offer, HII’s Mission Technologies division considers factors such as the role’s function, a candidate’s education, work experience, and key skills. Bonus or other non-recurrent compensation may occasionally be offered for qualified positions.
