About the role
Responsible for the day-to-day field activities of network node construction projects and network maintenance activities. This position will be working with contractors and vendors to construct wireless nodes and fiber optic segments.
Responsibilities
- Manage Wireless Node Construction and Fiber projects in the Right of way while providing directions to assigned contractors/vendors in support of the assigned area of responsibility.
- Manage external vendors necessary for timely completion of node construction projects and the delivery and closeout - within budget.
- Hold the Vendor accountable to ensure budget is maintained; ensure Supervisor and Manager are aware of issues that will impact project completion or cost.
- Initial construction reviews in accordance with project specifications.
- Oversee site construction, wireless node builds and fiber outside plant placement (aerial and underground) in the ROW, managing schedule, and resources on all projects.
- Ensure that all jobs are maintained in a project tracking system with complete accuracy.
- Provides communication on milestones, on time delivery, risks, and general updates to leadership and project management/service delivery resources within the Arium Networks organization.
- Ensuring that all permitting and licensing activities including traffic control are in place prior to construction; coordinate all construction activities with local and state agencies with regards to permitting and licensing.
- Work with Supervisor of Network Construction to create Bill of Materials, then order and track delivery of 3rd party materials.
- Schedule and prioritize the workload of wireless node construction and external vendor resources within an assigned area.
- Oversee break/fix and maintenance of small cells and fiber optic in the right of way.
- Installation & Deployment: Install antennas, remote radio heads (RRHs), small cell cabinets, and mounting hardware on poles, street furniture, or buildings.
- Fiber & Power Wiring: Pull, dress, and terminate fiber optic, coaxial, and AC/DC power cables.
- Testing & Troubleshooting: Use specialized gear to perform passive intermodulation (PIM) tests, sweep tests, and fiber testing (OTDR) to validate site performance.
- Dispatch and monitor contractors as needed to work trouble tickets and maintain the Arium Network.
- Work in ServiceNow to update and track tickets and PM tasks.
- Maintain project records, including taking site photos, updating redlines, and submitting closeout packages.
- Safety Compliance: Establish safe work zones and adhere to OSHA and environmental health and safety (EHS) guidelines.
- Maintain knowledge of technology in use, and/or in-development for its impact or potential impact on the operational business process.
Requirements
- One (1) to three (3) years construction experience, one (1) to three (3) years direct telecommunications experience with three (3) years of supervisory contractor construction experience preferred.
- Direct supervision/management of crews and contractors.
- Knowledge of node construction standards (aerial and underground associated work for power/fiber connectivity) preferred.
- Ability to read and decipher/understand construction drawings/plan sets and evaluate accuracy and constructability, building blueprints and RF data sheets (RFDS).
- Ability to work at heights (ladder/lift work), lift 50+ lbs. and work in varied weather conditions outside.
- Understanding of RF and telecommunications fundamentals and standards.
- Knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground) preferred.
- Familiarity with Outside Plant (OSP) standards and practices including GO95 and GO128.
- Working knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards.
- Good understanding of AC power – meters, WTR fused services and understanding of streetlight electrical wiring and sizing is a plus.
- Familiarity with test equipment and techniques for performing Grounding and Bonding Tests, RF Sweep tests, OTDR, Optical Power Meter and Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing preferred.
- Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with handheld tools, fiber splicing, and cable testing equipment.
- Ability to diagnose workflow issues and institute remedies – critical thinking.
Skills And Experience
- Education / Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent, minimum 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience, OSHA 10 Certification, valid driver’s license required with clean motor vehicle record; CDL is preferred.
