About The Role
The Network Automation Engineer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying automation solutions for complex enterprise networks. The ideal candidate will possess strong Python development skills combined with deep networking expertise, enabling them to automate network configuration, change management, and observability across multi-vendor environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop network automation solutions using Python, leveraging tools like Netmiko, Nornir, NAPALM, and Scrapli
- Build automation pipelines for configuration management, deployment, and validation across multi-vendor enterprise networks
- Build integrations with network APIs such as NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gNMI to enable seamless automation
- Implement source-of-truth platforms like NetBox or Nautobot and automate workflows based on authoritative data
- Build infrastructure-as-code for network configurations using Ansible, Terraform, and Jinja2 templating
- Create network testing and validation processes utilizing tools like pyATS, Genie, Batfish, and Suzieq
- Create CI/CD pipelines for network changes, including pre-deployment validation and rollback mechanisms
- Build observability and telemetry pipelines using gNMI, streaming telemetry, and analytics platforms to enhance network visibility
- Implement intent-based networking patterns and self-healing workflows to maintain desired network states automatically
- Automate compliance and audit workflows, generating evidence and verifying network configurations against organizational policies
- Develop reusable libraries, frameworks, and abstractions to standardize automation efforts
- Mentor junior engineers in Python development, software engineering practices, and automation methodologies
- Stay updated with emerging trends, tools, and vendor API developments in network automation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related field
- Five or more years of network automation experience
- Strong Python development skills including object-oriented programming, testing, and packaging
- Deep understanding of networking fundamentals such as routing, switching, and BGP
- Hands-on experience with network automation tools like Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, or Scrapli
- Experience with modern network APIs including NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gNMI
- Proficiency with Ansible and Jinja2 templating for network automation tasks
- Familiarity with source-of-truth platforms such as NetBox or Nautobot and automated workflows based on authoritative data
- Strong experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
