About the role

The Network Associate Director of 6-12 Literacy serves as an instructional and curricular leader for the network, creating and carrying out a vision for a rigorous secondary literacy education that supports the larger vision of Prospect 2030.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Teaching and Learning Team and school-based stakeholders to develop and share a vision for instructional excellence in secondary literacy to actively advocate for the implementation of the vision.
  • Establish goals and prioritize initiatives, in collaboration with the members of the Teaching and Learning Team and principals, that push forward student achievement in literacy across grades 6-12.
  • Lead a network-wide review of curriculum, standards and student performance data on a regular basis to ensure alignment and rigor and make necessary revisions.
  • Develop and update interim assessments, mock assessments, and gateway assessments in collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • Maintain up to date scope and sequences, instructional guidance, and tools for rigorous and engaging literacy instruction across 6-12 grade bands.
  • Ensure IB MYP and DP Language and Literature alignment for ELA content in grades 6-10, including unit design, text selection, and assessment criteria.
  • Manage ROAR and HD Word progress monitoring cycles, intervention placement, and benchmark response across middle school campuses.
  • Design and oversee middle school Reading Enrichment and Reading Intervention systems and ensure their sustainability across all four middle school campuses.
  • Coach school-based leaders to improve their literacy programs.
  • Articulate a vision for strong secondary literacy instruction and implementation of HQIM.
  • Diagnose the strengths and areas for growth of programs across the network and work with academic leaders and principals to create action plans for improvement and aligned support.
  • Give feedback on professional development and/or classroom instruction.
  • Develop, review, and/or revise assessments and curricular materials.
  • Analyze the results of network assessments and help academic leaders and teachers use the data to establish goals and adjust instruction, as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the sharing of knowledge gained through meetings and observations across the network of schools.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a related field, Education preferred.
  • Deep understanding of secondary literacy development, including adolescent reading science and structured literacy approaches for older learners.
  • Familiarity with IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme ELA frameworks strongly preferred.
  • Builds trust with school-based leaders and adjusts coaching approach based on individual school context and leader readiness.
  • Uses data to identify and close gaps for all student groups, with a clear commitment to equitable outcomes across the network.
  • Classroom teaching or other relevant instructional experience at the secondary level.
  • At least 3 years teaching and/or leadership experience in an urban school.
  • Current and valid New York State Teaching License preferred.
  • Proven track record of academic success.
  • Experience coordinating and delivering professional development for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic and critical thinker.
  • Exceptional written, oral, and visual communications skills.
