Posted Network Administrator Duties And Responsibilities
- Supports and manages all aspects of Steamship Authority’s data communication systems including but not limited to data, voice, and internet services.
- Installs, configures and maintains, network hardware and software, such as firewalls, routers, layer 2 and layer 3 network switches, wireless access points, VoIP devices and servers.
- Configures, maintains and manages the following network components: VoIP phone system and components, DNS/DHCP, VPN and LAN/WAN connectivity.
- Manages infrastructure cabling and equipment within the MDF, IDF and various Steamship Authority facilities and terminals.
- Maintains network performance, analyzes traffic, and troubleshoots issues to ensure optimal connectivity and reliability.
- Implements and maintains network security measures, including access controls, firewalls, and data backup/recovery protocols.
- Collaborates with IT staff and vendors to resolve complex network problems and ensure proper escalation during outages.
- Provides technical support and training to staff on network usage and troubleshoots IT issues.
- Participates in disaster recovery operations to restore network functionality after major failures.
- Responds to off-hours service impacting incidents, as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or related field of study, or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum five (5) years professional experience managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise data communications networks required.
- Minimum five (5) years professional experience configuring layer 2 and layer 3 network switches, firewalls, VPN appliances and wireless access points required.
- Proficiency in network protocols, network architecture, and infrastructure management required.
- Knowledge of operating systems, database systems, and network diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds required.
- Familiarity with network security, data privacy, and backup/recovery methods required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively, as well as experience managing projects required.
- Experience administering and managing VoIP phone systems and components preferred.
- Experience with network monitoring and network security tools preferred.
- Cisco CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication, and collaborative skills required.
- Able to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences, as well as work with stakeholders across various business units required.
- Proven ability to operate and effectively communicate while under pressure required.
- Able to manage a diverse workload and work under time constraints with minimal supervision required.
