About the role

Performs network workstation setup and support functions including installation of new or upgraded software packages, configuration of new workstations and supporting drivers, and support for application and system packages.

Responsibilities

  • Test network hardware and software products to ensure compatibility with existing products and services;
  • Troubleshoot conflicts and determine optimum installation configurations;
  • Install and support network products and services;
  • Design optimum end-user solutions using current and emerging technologies to maximize benefits;
  • Provide network administration services for end users;
  • Serve as technical expert in network workstation hardware and software technology and implementation strategies;
  • Analyze emerging workstation technologies, make recommendations for implementation to meet functional and performance requirements;
  • Advises personnel regarding optimum technical solutions to incorporate into budget requests;
  • Develop and maintain network system and workstation documentation covering all installed services, including inventory.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, or a related field;
  • Additional three years experience determining needs, testing, installing, and maintaining:
    • Local Area Network (LAN) workstations;
    • LAN workstation peripherals including CD-ROM;
    • Laser-disk, FAX, Modem, etc.;
    • Microcomputer software;
    • Servers and related devices;

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of workstations;
  • Local area networks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, meet deadlines;
  • Plan and organize personal workload, coordinate with co-workers as a team member;
  • Analyze an environment, determine requirement alternatives, and make recommendations resulting in a network product solution or implementation fully satisfying end-user work needs;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with end users.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds;
  • Frequently bend and kneel during the shift;
  • Frequently push and pull objects;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Required Question
