About the role

The Network Administrator manages and secures the City’s critical IT infrastructure, including local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), wireless deployments, and telecommunication systems. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Information Technology, this role ensures the high availability, efficiency, and security of data and voice communications supporting all municipal departments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points) and software.
  • Maintain the integrity and availability of the City’s LAN/WAN and wireless networks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues across LAN/WAN and wireless environments.
  • Administer, maintain, and support the City’s phone system (VoIP / IP telephony).
  • Support and troubleshoot network connectivity and performance related to virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
  • Implement and maintain security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and related cybersecurity tools.
  • Conduct regular security and vulnerability scans to identify risks and recommend remediation.
  • Monitor for, investigate, and respond to potential security incidents and threats in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical support for network, phone system, and connectivity issues to City employees.
  • Assist with workstation network configuration and access control.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and service providers for equipment or support when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure the City’s IT network and phone systems comply with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices.
  • Participate in IT-related projects, collaborating with team members and departments.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with new technologies.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
    • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field of study;
    • Two (2) or more years of experience in network administration or related roles;
    • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Certifications and Licenses:
    • CompTIA Network+ or an equivalent industry credential;
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher;
    • CompTIA Security+, Cisco CyberOps, or equivalent cybersecurity certification;
    • VMware or Microsoft virtualization-related certification;
    • VoIP or telephony-related certification.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, routing, switching, and wireless technologies.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, network security protocols, firewalls, and threat detection/response.
  • Solid understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and their network interactions.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux relating to connectivity, authentication, and security.
  • Experience with VoIP / IP telephony systems and related network requirements.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of ITIL or similar service management frameworks.

Skills

$73,112.00 - $116,792.00 Annually
