Network Administrator
About the role
The Network Administrator supports Operations and Maintenance of a NOAA Administrative LAN. The position is remote but requires availability for on-site visits in the DC area for hardware refresh and failures. Travel to Fairbanks, AK, Boulder, CO, Stennis, MS, and Asheville, NC may be required.
Responsibilities
- Participate in designing high-available networks in active/active mode, configure and manage BGP routing networks
- Network monitoring using SSH and SNMP to monitor devices, their services, and create alerts and notifications
- Maintain network documentation and schematics
- Install, configure, and manage Fortinet Firewalls, Cisco/Arista Switches, Citrix NetScaler’s, VPN Tunnels, Remote Access VPN, Site to Site VPNs
- Experience with AWS Networking
- Respond to customer support requests through tickets (act as point of escalation from Tier 2)
- Work directly with the Configuration Change Board (CCB) and federal customers
- Plan and execute regular network maintenance, upgrades, and patching to ensure resilience, stability, and compliance
- Ensure timely communications across the program that include daily oral and written statuses
- Racking and Stacking including cable management
Requirements
- Four (4) or more years of relevant experience in an Enterprise IT environment providing systems support and integration efforts across a mixed platform
- Knowledge with IPv4, IPv6, TCP, SSL, OSI network model
- Prior experience with computer cables, racks, rack PDU’s, fiber optics, optical transceivers, and patch panels
- Strong documentation skills (Excel and Visio diagrams)
- Strong and effective verbal and communications skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
Skills
- Knowledge of DNS, concepts of network Load Balancing
- Experience with AWS Networking
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or Engineering, or other comparable degree

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $93,000 - $120,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
