NERA Senior Consultant/Director – Energy
About the role
NERA Economic Consulting is seeking an intellectually curious, independent-minded team player with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our Energy line of business as a Senior Consultant or Director. This role involves using quantitative methods to analyze energy and transportation markets, evaluate regulation and competition, and conduct analyses for energy and transportation regulatory and commercial disputes.
Ideal candidates will bring experience across key verticals such as electricity, oil & gas, and renewables, and have a broad regulatory and litigation background. Responsibilities
- Support energy clients on high-value matters, including regulatory and commercial disputes.
- Lead projects, manage P&L, and operate independently to build and run a "microbusiness" within the firm.
- Testify as an expert and deliver high-quality, unbiased economic analysis.
- Own client relationships and apply state-of-the-art approaches clearly and convincingly.
- Collaborate with a collegial team of economists, PhDs, and top-tier STEM talent.
Requirements
- 6-8+ years of experience in energy consulting, regulatory, or litigation support.
- Expertise in electricity, oil & gas, renewables, or related verticals.
- Experience testifying, leading projects, and managing financial performance.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for owning client relationships.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings clearly.

Pay
The applicable base salary for this role is $225,000 – $275,000 per year. The base pay offered will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Schedule
NERA is committed to a hybrid work model, requiring colleagues to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week for in-person collaboration.
