NEPM Sports Reporter Internship Fall 2026
Job Overview
This position does not have a remote option; it is based at NEPM's office in downtown Springfield.
Responsibilities
- Reports to senior reporter and News Department Executive Editor
- Work independently and to cover sports feature content in western Massachusetts.
- Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.
- Report, voice and mix audio stories.
- Create digital stories.
- Create social posts.
SKILL SET
- Interested in journalism and sports
- Familiarity with news writing required
- Familiarity with interviewing preferred
- Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
- Knowledge of Canva and Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop) required
- Ability to work under deadline
- Access to a car and ability to drive preferred
- Collaborative approach and nature
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work and presentation

Internship Overview
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas.
Internship Dates: September 14th to December 4th.
Minimum of 8 hours per week (all in one full day), could include an additional day if student schedule permits.
Candidates must be available to work on Friday evenings.
Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi.
Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
About the Role
UMass student will work alongside NEPM senior reporter to learn the basics and produce local sports stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels.
Qualifications
Interested in journalism and sports
Familiarity with news writing required
Familiarity with interviewing preferred
Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
