Essential Responsibilities
- Renders the message faithfully; always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker, using the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served.
- Must be dependable, reliable, and prompt at all times.
- Keeps all assignment-related information strictly confidential.
- Accepts assignments using discretion with regard to skill, setting, and the clients involved.
- Functions in a manner appropriate to each interpreted situation; demonstrating professional appearance, conduct, and promptness.
- Fulfills the interpreter code of Ethics for Medical and Legal settings designed by a recognized entity such as IMIA, NAJIT, or NCIHC.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A two-year college degree is preferred.
- Demonstrate an advanced proficiency level in English and target language (Haitian Creole).
- Ability to provide effective, accurate, and impartial interpretation, both receptively and expressively of English to the target language and from the target language to English.
- Certificate of successfully completed National Recognized Interpreting Training is required.
- Two years of related experience is preferred.
- Acceptable criminal background check is necessary.
- Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule is required.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary - Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
- Repeat the same movements.
- Requires driving own vehicle to various sites.
- Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
- Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
- Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
- See details of objects whether they are nearby or far away.
