University of Michigan Health–Sparrow is recruiting a full-time clinical neonatologist to join our team in Lansing, Michigan. This position offers a community hospital–based clinical practice with the benefits of a growing academic and clinical affiliation.

About the role

The Sparrow NICU combines the scope and autonomy of a busy Level III center with access to the subspecialty expertise and resources of University of Michigan Health and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

  • 35-bed Level III NICU and 12-bed Special Care Nursery
  • Approximately 700–800 NICU admissions annually
  • Advanced neonatal therapies, including high-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, and therapeutic hypothermia
  • Dedicated neonatal transport team serving hospitals across mid-Michigan
  • Interprofessional team of neonatologists, advanced practice providers, trainees, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other neonatal specialists
  • On-site pediatric cardiology and pediatric surgery, including fetal and neonatal echocardiography
  • Close collaboration with the Level IV NICU and pediatric subspecialists at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital for consultation and transfer when needed
  • Health system employed medical group model

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency with ventilators, CPAP, umbilical lines, and advanced monitoring equipment
  • Ability to react calmly and efficiently to life-threatening emergencies
  • Expert-level data interpretation and diagnostic skills for rapidly changing patient conditions
  • Highly effective in emotional, high-stakes communication with families

Requirements

  • Completion of a neonatology fellowship
  • MD or DO
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in neonatal-perinatal medicine
  • Licensed as a physician in the State of Michigan
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
