Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

Part-time, variable 12-hour shifts as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

About the Role

This position serves as a consultant, clinician, licensed independent practitioner, and educator within the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner demonstrates clinical expertise and in-depth knowledge in the care and education for neonatal conditions and problems, serving as an educator to nursing staff, nurse practitioner students, and patients’ families. This role also acts as a consultant to pediatric interns and neonatology fellows and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice according to State Law.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and prioritizes clinical care needs for all patients in the NICU.
• Demonstrates ability to perform clinical privileges as defined on University of Utah Health Hospital and Clinics Neonatal Nurse Practitioner clinical privileges application.
• Coordinates and evaluates the clinical treatment of patients with attending neonatologist on a daily basis.
• Collaborates and makes referrals to consulting medical services to provide treatment for patients in NICU.
• Functions as a resource and preceptor for nurse practitioner students in training.
• Functions as a resource and consultant for residents and neonatology fellows during their NICU rotations.
• Provides antenatal consultation and education to families in labor and delivery that will require NICU services.
• Provides clinical summary and review of patient medical history to referring community providers upon discharge.

Requirements

• Current APRN and Controlled Substance licenses in the State of Utah.
• Current National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor or provider status.
• Current DEA license with a Utah practice address.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 100 pounds and moving medical equipment or patients.
• Ability to work in environments exposed to infectious diseases and around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
• Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

This position is patient-sensitive and requires immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy, with limited exemptions for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing with emphasis in neonatal practitioner/clinical specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Candidates nearing completion of required licensure or actively obtaining Utah licensure are encouraged to apply, with all credentials required before the start date.
• Candidates licensed in another state must be in the process of securing Utah licensure before the start date.

Pay

$57.20 - $88.65 per hour.
