Position Highlights

The position is for a Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PAA) - Neonatology at Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL. It is a part-time (average of 20 hours/week) or full-time (average of 40 hours/week) role, with flexible hours and a unit staffed 24/7. A sign-on bonus is eligible for experienced candidates.

About the Role

Elmhurst Hospital is a Level IIe Special Care Nursery with over 3000 annual births. The Neonatology department seeks a Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or neonatal pediatric hospitalist who will work collaboratively with a neonatologist, performing delivery room resuscitation, common newborn diagnosis and management, and specialized long-term care for late preterm infants. This role requires critical judgment and functions both independently and as a member of the neonatal interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

  • Providing appropriate medical care to newborn patients in L&D, newborn nursery, and intensive care unit during his/her shift.
  • Maintaining an adequate medical record for each patient seen and treated during his/her shift.
  • Performing appropriate procedural tasks as needed (PPV, intubation, central lines, chest tubes, etc).
  • Participating in self and peer evaluations to improve quality of care.
  • Collaborating in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Participating in developing and implementing Quality Improvement (QI) monitoring.
  • Acting as a resource for clinical skills for staff.

Requirements

  • Licensure in the State of IL required; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required.
  • Completion of Master's level program in specialty area.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider and NRP certifications required.
  • Certification in specialty: NCC certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Certificate of completion from neonatal PA fellowship.
  • Experience: 5+ years of IP Newborn (highly preferred); or other relevant acute care pediatric experience preferred.

Special Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Newborn airway management including intubation.
  • Central line placement (umbilical and PCVC).
  • Newborn chest tube placement.
  • Equipment utilized within the scope of the position: stethoscope, monitors, small baby equipment, flow inflating bag, ventilators (HFJV, HFOV, cMV, NIMV, iNO, etc), sterile procedures, therapeutic hypothermia.
