About the Role

The University of Iowa Healthcare Department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to use the Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy for patients in Stead Family Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Nursery, and Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic. This role also involves teaching dietetic students, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and developing nutritional components of care. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient’s status according to age.

University of Iowa Healthcare—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. The department intends to hire one candidate from either Clinical Dietitian I or Clinical Dietitian II, based on qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for neonatal, adult, and geriatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Teach dietetic and Master of Clinical Nutrition students.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and develop nutritional components of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles appropriate to patient age and status.
  • Make enteral and parenteral recommendations and select appropriate formulas (for Clinical Dietitian II).

Requirements

Clinical Dietitian I:

  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates registered prior to January 1, 2024, may qualify with a Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa.

Clinical Dietitian II:

  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of clinical nutrition experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in patient care for the neonatal population across a wide range of medical conditions in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Experience making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa.
