About the role

Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry founded in Austin, Texas, in 1998. The organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs: Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness.

This position is part of the Neighbor Care department at Community First! Village, which assists neighbors in navigating village services and activities. The Neighbor Care Navigator is a collaborative member of the Neighbor Care team, providing information and education about available resources and supporting neighbors in accessing these resources.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact for neighbors needing assistance through Neighbor Care
  • Navigate neighbors to the correct person or partner based on request or needs
  • Support the Hog Eye South Neighbor Care Navigator in reviewing Neighbor Support Forms and making appropriate referrals
  • Maintain up-to-date data and produce reports as needed
  • Receive medical transportation requests from neighbors and schedule them in Trip Master system
  • Communicate pick up times for the Medical Transportation Program and any changes in the schedule, complete ride reminders for neighbors
  • Responsible for administrative tasks with our HEB Rx Delivery Program
  • As needed, support the Property Management Team with accepting rent payments from neighbors and entering work orders into AppFolio
  • Build reports for the Supportive Services team including food pantry utilization, Healthy Home Coach program progress, Social Work intern touchpoints, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Data team to build BI dashboards to share Supportive Services KPIs
  • Manage package deliveries for Hog Eye North neighbors
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff and Neighbor Care team meetings
  • Aid MLF and Neighbor Care team in achieving our goals, especially caring for neighbors
  • Absorb and assist Neighbor Care leadership and other departments as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Principles

  • Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values and goals
  • 1-2 years of related experience
  • Experience with evaluating the needs of those that you serve and helping to connect them with the appropriate providers and resources
  • Critical thinking skills that involve reasoning, organizing and analyzing information so problems are accurately understood, and solutions are outcome-oriented and purposeful
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365
  • Experience working with escalated individuals; de-escalation training preferred
  • Attention to detail, and time management skills with a concentrated skill in accurate and timely record keeping, and ability to produce required reports
  • Flexible and adaptable, adjusting priorities to unexpected circumstances and styles to meet the needs of others; recovers quickly from problems and setbacks
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly and with a keen sense of discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage neighbor concerns with empathy and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and respond to neighbors, staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Ability to move about all phases of Community First! Village
  • Ability to work in an office setting
