History Nebraska is seeking a motivated and quality-focused cultural resources professional to manage the Highway Archeology Program within the State Archeology Office.

About the role

The successful candidate will oversee the management of archaeological projects related to state highways, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. They will also work closely with other state agencies and stakeholders to promote public awareness and education about archaeological resources.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate archaeological projects related to state highways
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations regarding archaeological resources
  • Work with other state agencies and stakeholders to promote public awareness and education about archaeological resources
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and consultants engaged in highway archeology projects
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to highway archeology projects
  • Conduct site surveys and excavations as needed
  • Collaborate with the State Archeology Office to ensure consistency in program implementation

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in archaeological project management
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing archaeological resources
  • Experience working with state and federal agencies, and the public
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with GIS software
  • Knowledge of cultural resource management principles and practices

  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to travel as needed

Benefits

History Nebraska offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Pay

$75,000 - $85,000 annually

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
